Zombies!!! Hybrid of Board and Card game

Zombies!!! by Twilight Creation is an older game that has numerous expansions. Unlike other board games, this one starts out with a single tile. Each player is required to turn over a tile from the stack to expand the map. Each tile pops up with zombies on it, and you start exploring. Combat with zombies is resolved with rolling a 6 sided die and a 4+ being a kill. You are given 3 bullets (which add 1 to any combat roll) and 3 hearts (which are rerolls). When you run out of hearts, you die and comeback with the starting 3 life and bullets, but lose half of your zombie kills rounded up.

The game ends when either a player has gained 25 zombies, which you get for killing them, or you make it to the helipad and there are no zombies on it. The helipad is the final tile that is place and come up with the maximum amount of zombies.

You get a hand of 3 cards as well which can for the most part be used right away. There are a few that you need to be at a certain location to use or equip, such as the fire axe at the firestation or a skateboard at the skate shop. These cards give you benefits or hinder your opponents.

Even with the short play rules, this game took us a while to finish due to only having 3 players. We found ourselves plowing through the deck of cards as well and having to reshuffle it. It was a fun distraction for about 45 minutes.  Our game ended with a total zombie kill of 25 as we kept throwing zombies in the way of the helipad. No one player clearly ran away with it which is a huge plus. There were times where someone would be stranded on a long dead end with no zombies and slowly making his way out.

This game isn't for everyone, I wouldn't recommend it for a family fun night or anything. My gaming group loves it as well as other board gamers. Anyone with geeky or zombie interests would find this fun. The level of learning this game is low, no complex rules really. Have a great time with it.

Question: Any other games you want me to review? (Fluxx or Arena of Heroes is next on my list.)

What have I been doing with my break?

I have returned, not so triumphantly. In my absence, here are some of the things I have been up to. Feel free to skip to sections you want.

Gaming (Pen and Paper, Cards):
I have a review copy of a card/miniature game coming to me in the mail which I will be talking about on here. We have tried out a couple of new games during this break and I plan on reviewing those as well. I am currently in the planning stages with another gamer about creating a world/adventures for a (pen and paper) roleplaying game which is going well.

Movies:
I've actually canceled my Netflix account due to not using it anymore. I'm trying to think of a creative way to do the Unwatchable Movie Challenge without using Netflix. This idea might be scrapped entirely for just in general movie reviews. I'll add terrible movies to the Unwatchable list as they deserve that honor.

Writing:
Not much writing has been going on story wise. I'm more involved with writing for roleplaying games than work on my book or short stories. As inspiration hits, I write though.

Life:
We met with the pastor, which made this wedding stuff real to me. A little more than a month from now and I'll be married. Never thought it would turn out this way, but I'm happy it is. :-)  Other than that, work and play as usual. And I'm addicted to Twitter now.

So here are some topics I will be covering. I'm working on the blogger roleplay idea because I think it has great potential and would be really fun. Talk with you again later in the week.

Question:  What kind of content would you like to see coming up?

Don't call it a comeback #2

Okay, fine, it's a comeback. It will be less regular than what it was, probably 3-4 days a week instead of 5.
Topics will include but not limited to: Gaming experiences, a return of the Unwatchable Movie Challenge, writing topics as well as short works, possibly a return to the blogger roleplaying experience, more music and so much more.

I just wanted to alert the masses of this. I look forward to visiting everyone's blog again as well. :-) See you soon.

Unwatchable Movie Challenge #4

Photo from IMDB.com
Firstly, this is not a return. I just watched this last night and I had to feature this movie. No words can describe it, and I will be giving spoilers. If you don't want to hear about how this movie ends and want to see it for yourself, I'm so sorry, and you should leave now.

Spoiler:
This movie is bad. Dance of the Dead takes place in a smaller town and the big buzz is about the prom. You follow around a mixed up group of a backyard wrestler, the sci-fi club, a cheerleader, the vice president of the student council, and the "main" character who doesn't really fit into a group.

The night of the prom the dead rise from the grave, or in some instances, pop from the grave. There is a scene where the sci fi club took a trip out to the cemetery. The encounter a zombie and run for there life. All around them, the dead are rising. You get a shot of running along side them, and zombies are getting launched out of the graves and hit the ground running alongside the members. I can't find a word for how laughable it was.

The other highlight in this film was the backyard wrestler and the main character fight a little mob of zombies. This main character is godlike, because he can stab zombies with a BASEBALL BAT! Not only stab them, but slice them in half with it. I'll spare you the details of the zombie make-out scene (and yes, two zombies were making out).

The splinter groups all find each other, one group discovers that the zombies like music. The zombies will not attack as long as music is playing, which is very new to me. Because of this, all the zombies have found their way to the prom. They decide to destroy the school with all the zombies inside with the help of a crazy gym teacher.

Dance of the Dead ends with the possibility of a sequel as well. They determined that it was the power plant that had started all of this. The remaining members of the group decide to drive off into the night to destroy it. So keep your eyes open for Power Plant of the Dead.

So that is all. Unfortunately this movie is not available streaming on Netflix. The station I saw it on was called Chiller and this week is zombie week. But now that you know, there is no need. The scariest thing about this movie is that it was made.

Choices and Effects

Everyday we are presented with choices. Most of the time, the choice is clear. Yes, I'll go to work or school today. No, I don't need to get gas today. Sure I'll donate a dollar at the checkout. I often wonder about the decisions we make that alters our life though.

When I was in middle school, I wanted to learn an instrument. I was personally dead set on violin. It ended up that we had a trumpet from when my dad and uncle were in band. I gave up my cause pretty early and took up the trumpet. From what I remember of that time, I hated it. I quit without even giving it a year.

What if I had pursued my interest and held out for a violin though? Would my life had been changed that drastically? Being so early in life, I think so. The friends I had would of changed to band and orchestra friends. I might of tried harder to keep up with friends in grades. This would of most likely led to college right after high school. Maybe my love of music would of come earlier in life and I would be following my dreams of performing or being a part of a major orchestra.

The choices you make shape your life. I don't feel you are stuck on a path that you don't want to walk. The only force that keeps you on that path is yourself. Make yourself wander into the forest of uncertainty every once in awhile. Break your routine to see how it feels and what comes of it. Introduce yourself to that stranger because they might be that secret millionaire.

And this is what happens when I think to myself "I wonder how different my life would of been if I played the violin?" Do you ever think "what if" and what is that moment you feel would of completely changed your life?

You've caught him

The robber makes it out the door and is pursued by land and air. He makes it to edge of the forest before the Golden Eagle makes him stumble and drop a few items. He can't speed up fast enough to get away and is shortly caught.
"Okay, okay. I surrender." He takes out a pouch and begins to take out item after pouch after item out, placing them on the ground. You reclaim your stuff as he begins to complain aloud. "I wouldn't of needed to steal from you if I wasn't stolen from in the first place by that scoundrel." The townsfolk walk back to town ignoring him. You brave adventurers know a hook when you hear one, so you stay.
"King Felix is nothing but a fiend. This isn't the first town he has 'saved.' I come from a town a few days travel south from here, Westerdale. Felix saw that we were given no attention and proclaimed himself savior and king of that town as well. The first year was great, and he influenced a festival same as this one. When everyone in Westerdale was at the statue unveiling, he robbed us all blind."
But that doesn't explain why he was stealing from all of you. "I was trying to stop the ceremony. If people were worried their belongings were stolen, maybe they wouldn't attend the unveiling here." That seems kind of shady still. "If that failed, I was going to catch him in the act. Look, help me catch him in the act so I can show you what a scoundrel he is. If I'm lying, you may do whatever you wish to me. Tomorrow is the ceremony, so we must act quickly."

Are you worried more about Felix or your new "friend" lying? How are you going to catch one or the other? Can't wait to hear the creative traps you come up with.
