Dream recording

Not a night has gone by this past week without me playing out a mission on Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3. This was the influence to my dream last night.

I was a new general for the Soviet side (side I've been playing recently) and they didn't trust me because I was an American. I swore I was loyal to them and that I would do anything they wanted me to. They put me on some paper pushing job and showed me to a desk. I decided to walk around rather than sit around and do nothing.

I found some room with a ton of computers and some people playing on them. This other general Zhan started questioning me and asked if I wanted to test my abilities against her. I said sure and it was over pretty quickly. I had crushed her and I asked if she wanted me to submit the results. She said no but I was told to by a superior officer.

They asked me how I knew so much and I quoted The Art of War by Sun Tzu. I personally have never read it but I guess I had in my dream. They were both impressed and Zhan asked if I could teach her more. This is where I woke up.

I'm inspired to read The Art of War now. Has a dream ever inspired you to do anything?

Quote: "For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill." - Sun Tzu

  3. Never read the Art of War....impressive that your dream self subconsciously knows what it's about. :)

Your dreams sound a lot more productive than mine. Mine last night was asking two kids to not spit at me or I'd arrest them. I can't remember why, but I'm glad they took the warning. (Real spit? Gross. Dream spit? Weird.)

  7. I am SO sorry! I thought I was following your blog already and just realized when I was going through my blog roll and thinking about what an amazing commenter you are that I wasn't. Again, sorry. I thought I was already stalking you....

Is it bad that I've never even heard of that book? Yikes! But your dream sounds fascinating! And yeah, my dreams inspire me all the time. My subconscious is pretty active and sometimes I feel like it speaks to me through my dreams. When the idea for my book popped into my head, I ignored it for a really long time and when I did that, I started dreaming about the characters too. My dreams force me to face things sometimes.

And, also, sometimes my dreams are total cracked out messes and I'm sure if people knew the details they'd ask me to submit myself for drug testing. :P

  9. I once had this dream about this girl and an incredibly beautiful boy who sparkles in the sunlight, lying in a meadow. I wanted to write it down when I woke up, but someone beat me to it!

Okay, so that was a lie. My dreams aren't usually that orderly and concise. Usually they're similar to what I assume being on a bad acid trip would feel like.

  10. That's a pretty awesome dream :) A lot of my dreams have influenced my writing, but nothing I can think of has inspired me to do anything specific. There's usually nothing that coherent in them, hehe.
